UP 1979’s First Trip to Texas in Freight Service

On Wednesday September 8th the UP 1979 Employee Resource Group Locomotive had transitioned from display at corporate events to regular freight service a few days earlier, and now it was headed for Texas leading a merchandise train to Houston. I headed north and met friend Troy MInnick in Argyle that morning to catch an open view of the train and then beat it to Fort Worth for a drone shot with the skyline. The train passed Argyle at 12:50 pm with engineer friend Ernie Zamparelli at the controls.

I was glad to see the engine was still clean. I had no trouble beating the train to Fort Worth and the resulting aerial view worked well at 1:40 pm.

The train was advised to pull to the south end of Ney Yard to change crews so I drove there for these three views.

The skyline drone view had gone well so I asked the outbound crew to let me know when they started moving so I would be in position for another view as the train passed Echo Lake Park at 3:01 pm. That worked out well too as shown here.

All in all a successful mission!
