Railfanning Cleburne

Railfanning Cleburne

On July 7th, 2025, I drove down to Cleburne to visit with friend Jeremy Krauss who was riding Amtrak 22 up from Temple. Heading east on Highway 171from Cresson I encountered a FWWR road switcher at their Windmill Yard on the northwest side of Cleburne.

Amtrak 22 was behind schedule and pulled into Cleburne at 1:40 pm.

Jeremy and I went to lunch and when we returned to the depot, I was surprised by a Montana Rail Link SD70ACe running as the second unit on a southbound loaded coal train.

The normal two DPU’s were on the rear end.

Amtrak 21 arrived at 4:15 and Jeremy boarded for the trip back to Temple. Interestingly the lead unit was P42 number 69 in the newest Amtrak paint scheme.

On the way back west on Highway 171 two FWWR units were tied down within the security fencing at a local cement company.

Luck was on my side as a train from Fort Worth was arriving in Cresson just as I pulled up to the east yard.

All things considered a great railfan day with plenty of variety!
