Recently Union Pacific announced its intention to pursue a merger with Norfolk Southern to result in the country’s first transcontinental railroad. It will take the STB at least a year to reach a decision, so we will see how this unfolds. On August 9th the ZAILC already operated by NS-CPKC-UP between Atlanta and Los Angeles through interline agreements is seen passing Aledo, Texas with a mix of NA and UP power that is not unusual for this train.
Will this view become the new normal? Time will tell.
