UP 1943 Returns With Heritage

On the afternoon of September 29th a train worth catching headed west out of Fort Worth on the UP Baird Sub in the form of an intermodal led by UP Veterans Unit 1943; UP 1989 Rio Grande Heritage and regular UP GEVO 6048. I decided since I had free time this day to catch the train at Aledo and then drive out to Judd west of Weatherford for a drone view. I arrived in Aledo in time to catch this eastbound intermodal at 11:55 am passing the hotbox detector at milepost 264.

The UP 8940 East met the UP 1943 West at Davidson Yard, and the target train passed Aledo at 12:51 pm. About two hours early for perfect light but what are you going to do?

The UP 1943 was not a fast mover and I had time to pick up friend Paul Beverung in Weatherford for the run on out to Judd on I20. We arrived at the east end of Judd siding in plenty of time for me to have the drone ready to launch for this better lit view at 2:07 pm.

This train met an eastbound here at Judd which gave us time to beat it to Gordon for one more photo. Alas the cloud gods were against us as the skies darkened just before the train arrived.

Rather than head straight back, since the nearby W. K. Gordon Center for Industrial History was open we decided to pay a visit as we both are interested in the history of the now ghost town of Thurber on the south side of I20 across from the museum. With the popular Smokestack and New York HIll restaurants nearby this is a good destination. We enjoyed our visit with the staff very much and I took this photo of their train cut out along the perimeter fence as we drove away.

After dropping Paul off back at his vehicle in Weatherford, as I was passing through Aledo the eastbound signal was lit up green so I pulled over for this last photo of the day at 5:40 pm.

A good day of photography, a museum visit and the company of a friend!
