An Afternoon in Aledo

An Afternoon in Aledo

Once again the weather was unseasonably perfect on Saturday December 20, 2025, and I decided to try to catch a train passing the quarry lake west of Aledo in full sun since I had been clouded out back in November. Driving to Aledo around 12:45 pm I saw there was a green signal downtown for an eastbound train. I decided to use the DSLR for this photo and I was ready when an intermodal train with a 2 x 2 configuration roared by me at 1:13 pm.

Nothing else appeared to be close, so I went back home for lunch and then returned after 2:00 pm after hearing a train leaving Fort Worth on my home radio. I drove down to the vicinity of the lake and launched the drone in time to catch these views at 2:42 pm of the lead locomotives and the single DPU on the rear.

This achieved my goal of a full sun catch here, but I decided to stick around until sunset and see what else I might catch. The next train was another westbound 4:23 pm and I changed the positioning of the drone to capture a different angle.

The sun started to set as a third westbound was approaching Aledo. While waiting for it to arrive I made this exposure of the old Bryant grain elevator highlighted by the last rays of sun.

Another intermodal train came through westbound at 5:35 pm with the power in a 2 x 2 configuration.

My final view for this day shows the solid string of loaded well cars bisecting downtown Aledo just after sunset.

Once again a very successful train photo excursion close to home!
