Tuesday December 31st dawned asd a clear and mild day, so I decided to get out and get a few “final trains” to close out 2024. The first train of the day was only a few minutes from home at the middle of Iona Siding on the UP Baird Sub where I captured the hot “Laser” ZAILC westbound with two NS units and a rare short train.

I quickly relocated to the east end of the siding where I caught this intermodal train that had been in the siding for ZAILC.

Another eastbound had taken the siding at Earls for the westbound “Z” train, and it turned out to be a roughly 100-car rock train from the loadout at Olden between Ranger and Eastland. For this one I went back west to the middle of Iona Siding at milepost 261.

The very last train I photographed in 2024 was taken at 3:42 pm at the private crossing within friend Paul Beverung’s ranch in North Annetta.

It turned out to be the UP 8032 East that closed out a fun 2024 for railroad photography!
