On Wednesday, July 27th after work in Arizona I encountered a westbound freight on the Phoenix Sub as it was leaving Ash Fork. I quickly drove a few miles south of town on Highway 89 and then cut back west on the first paved road I came to. A few minutes later I photographed the head end skiirting the edge of a large open pit.
By the time the rear of the train with a single DPU reached my location, it had started to rain heavily adding to the photo’s atmosphere.
Only one train for the day but I had no complaints and headed back to Flagstaff for the night.
