A few days later on Sunday July 10th I had a shot at catching a different UP Heritage unit near Alvarado. The UP Rio Grande heritage unit number 1989 was leaving Davidson Yard on its way to Tower 55 to turn south on the Fort Worth Sub on its way to Houston. I left the house and drove straighht to Burleson where I was ready when the train passed through at 10:29 am.
With this sequence accomplished successfully and my close proximity to I35 in mind, I decided to try for one more photo of the southbound train. I chose to drive ahead to the East County Road 405 crossing where I found a well-lit open view. A few minutes later I took this satisfying view of the train’s rapid passing.
Two unique locomotives up front in the form of a UP heritage unit followed by a KCS locomotive that may itself be a heritage unit if the CP-KCS merger is approved in the next few weeks.
