Back on April 18th I took a run down to Cresson to see the FWWR at work as I live close enough to hear them plainly on the radio. When I arrived in Cresson I first drove out to the east end of the yard where I was surprised to see a loaded frac sand train tied down with no crew. The lead unit was one of BNSF’s surviving SD70MAC’s still in the “Grinstein Green” paint scheme inspired by Burlington Northern CEO Gerald Grinstein. I put on my PPE and after making sure there were no cars moving nearby I crossed over for this series of properly lit photos.
A close up of the model designation on the side sill.
From here I drove back to the east side of town where before long I caught the Cleburne Switcher leaving town with two SD40-2’s up front pulling a single car.
Around 45 minutes later the Cresson Turn left heading back to Fort Worth and I photographed the four SD40-2’s passing Henson Lumber’s spur track.
A few seconds later with the buildings obscured by the train I took one more photo of a more Bucolic country scene.
Not bad catches for a fifteen minute drive from the house, and it was good to again see SD40-2 #2025 that started life as a Santa Fe SD45 over 50 years ago.
