Two days later on Monday March 21st late in the afternoon, the UP 1982 came back eastbound from the rock loadout at Olden leading a 16,000 ton train headed to Houston. The weather was much more overcast than on Saturday when it was westbound with the empty train, but I decided to hop in the SUV and make the five minute trip to Iona. In retrospect I was glad I stopped at the cut near the middle of the siding instead of going to the east end as the 1982’s train pulled in to meet a westbound that was still in Fort Worth.
As you can see I was fortunate enough to catch a sucker hole in the clouds for the minute it took for the head end to pass by. When the train stopped it was not in a good spot for more photos, so I did not wait for the westbound and headed back home happy with these results.
