I had word that after starting in Spring that morning on October 9th, 2023, UP would be running one of their Engineering Department Specials westbound on the Baird Subdivision from Fort Worth to Sweetwater in the afternoon. The lighting would be good, and I invited fellow photographer Steve Crise to accompany me. We met friend Paul Beverung near his house in Annetta and captured the train for the first time at 1:00 pm in this sequence.
Steve and I decided to head west to Judd for a second sequence before letting the train go on its way. We beat it to the east end of Judd Siding next to I20 with time to spare. I began my second sequence at 2:05 pm right after the train came around the curve.
In the amount of time I had with the train moving quickly I could not move fast enough to the left to eliminate the buried cable warning sign from the photo, but it has since grown on me and at least I did not let it converge with any of the other vertical lines.
The curtain was up, and I am sure everyone was used to seeing the “foamers” out in force this day!
