To close out the 2022 blogs, here is the photographic story of a rare visitor to Amtrak’s Texas Eagle. On Christmas Eve Train 21’s four cars were being pulled by two units, GE P32-8 number 518 and P42DC number 161 wrapped to celebrate Amtrak’s 50th Anniversary. I drove up to Richland Hills to catch them in a good spot approaching Fort Worth, but the train was running late and did not pass me until right after sunset in fading light.
I decided to catch the unique locomotives again the next day in Cleburne, Texas as they came back north as Train 22 in better lighting conditions. The results were indeed much better on Christmas Day as I took a sequence of the train making its station stop.
I hung around for Train 21 to arrive and the usual single P42DC pulling four cars was an anticlimax to this day’s Train 22. P42DC number 58 looked like it had lost a fight recently.
But overall, not a bad catch to end 2022’s railroad photography!
