On Wednesday August 17th, 2021 the Big Boy was on public display from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Houston Amtrak Station. Unlike the display day in Fort Worth where the public could not get closer than about 75 feet from the locomotive due to a drainage ditch, here in Houston everyone could literally walk up and touch it. Crowds were heavy all day with long lines to go through the museum car and buy souvenirs at the merchandise table. It was a hot and humid day, but everyone had a good time. I think the best way to present the day here is in the form of a photo montage from just after sunrise on the deserted platform to after closing time.
As the platform was now deserted again, Troy and I headed out for dinner and a good night’s sleep before our last day chasing the 4014 for this trip.
